The day Patch arrived at the shelter, is the day I met her. She was so thin her spine was visible, clearly frightened, and carrying a belly full of puppies. When the vet told us she was due to give birth within the week, I couldn’t bear the thought of her going through it alone, scared and confused in a shelter. Right then, I knew—she was coming home with me.
Patch started to relax and quickly made herself at home with my mum, our dog tallow and I. Just a few days later, she gave birth to seven beautiful puppies, and watching her be such an incredible mum left me in awe.
When it was time to find homes for the puppies, it was clear Patch had already found hers. My mum and I had completely fallen for her, and there was no way we could let her go. She’s now a cherished part of our family.
These days, Patch spends her time basking in the sun, going for long runs, and curling up each night next to her new sister, Tallow. My mum and I never imagined having a little dog, but Patch taught us that it’s not about size or breed of the dog. We love her unconditionally and we are so grateful Patch waddled into our lives and has made herself a permanent member of our family
